Date & Time : 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday May 17 & Monday May 18

Do you want to grow and eat your own organic food but weed and water less?

Forests sustain themselves ... nobody weeds and waters a forest or a thriving ecosystem! This can be done entirely with edibles. Ron Berezan is coming to Medicine Hat to hold an Edible Forest Garden Workshop. Ron has been passionate about growing food for the last 30 years, and has designed public edible landscapes, intensive production urban areas, rooftop gardens, and edible forest gardens. He's taught permaculture, forest gardening, and organic gardening workshops from the Yukon to Cuba. He also writes for a variety of permaculture and organic gardening magazines and has been a regular CBC Alberta radio gardening guest.

With him, discover hundreds of edibles, many of which are lesser-known, and how to combine them in patterns that forge mutually beneficial relationships to create a self-sustaining edible garden ecosystem. Discover perennial and self-seeding fruit, nut, annual vegetables, mushrooms, and small livestock including bees, poultry, as well as other plant yields including medicinal plants, coppicing plants, plants for crafting activities, flower production, harvestable timber species, perennial plants for bio-fuel production, and beautiful spaces for relaxation.

  • In this workshop:
  • - discover how forest gardening is a viable alternative for Southern Alberta climates in rural and urban settings
  • - learn forest gardening design principles and practice
  • - discover a wide range of edibles for our region
